Medical, Nursing Directors Meet for Annual Conference
Approximately 70 people gathered Friday, November 11 at the Westin Austin for the ESP Medical/Nursing Directors Conference. This annual, all-day event allows emergency department medical directors and nursing directors from each of ESP's 24 clinical sites to gather for educational sessions, professional networking, and time to mingle with ESP staff and other health care administrators.
Highlights included:
- ESP Managing Partner Sam Roberts, MD spoke about handling difficult patient encounters in the ED.
- Noted health care and motivational speaker Liz Jazweic, RN addressed the issue of accountability within emergency departments.
- Donald Furman, MD spoke and led a discussion about integrated health care delivery systems and their impact on emergency medicine.
- ESP's newest medical director, Joe Danna, MD, spoke about creating "blue ribbon" EDs.
- University of Texas health informatics lecturer Bob Ligon addressed the subjects of "meaningful use" and EMRs.
- Jason Thurman, MD closed out the conference with an interactive discussion about risk management and handling patient complaints.
