ESP Building First Austin Emergency Medicine Residency Program

University Medical Center Brackenridge and the Seton Family of Hospitals have given Emergency Service Partners, L.P. permission to begin building an Emergency Medicine Residency. The program will be the first of its kind in Austin.

ESP has begun the process of designing the structure under which clinical care, bedside teaching, didactic teaching, and research will take place. In addition, a nationwide search is under way to find an outstanding Residency Director.

"Having residents that we train ourselves should help ESP to recruit new physicians," said Chris Ziebell MD, Medical Director at UMC Brackenridge and a member of the ESP Board of Managers. "That, along with HPCR, will add to our academic standing."

ESP physicians have already enhanced their teaching credentials by giving expert lectures at other residencies.

"The program will begin as soon as we can get all of the pieces in place, which we anticipate will result in our first residents joining us in July of 2012," Ziebell said.
